Music, My Diary

Music and cold weather

On Sunday I went to Brugherio to listen to the last concert of this year’s Antiquamodecia season. Baroque music in church; nice I thought the acoustics were good too. Although a longer concert would have been nice because the music was just so beautiful and familiar, the church was very cold so the short programe was fine.

Corelli,Vivaldi,Marcello and Sammartini, a lovely Christmassy concert and a bargain at 5 euros!

My body hates these cold and frosty mornings, it feels stiff and anything but supple! But my eyes don’t. When I look out of the window and see the blackened branches against a lurid sky, I’m reminded of the Yugoslav naifs. My ex loved these paintings so much that I actually painted one for him! Mine was painted against a red sky. We both liked it. Of course it’s easy to copy rather than be creative, shame on me!

Music, music, music!

Piazza Rossa! (Actually piazza della Scala)

Oh what a great week music- wise!

Friday evening to  La Scala to see Attila. It was spectacular, a real Scala-style production, pulling out all the stops!  They even had horses on stage and Attila sang seated fearlessly on the back of his charger. I enjoyed everything about it, direction, choir, singing. I’ve made a vow to myself, I really must study Verdi, because, unlike my friends, I don’t really appreciate him. I mean with Wagner it was love at first sight (hearing) and Kurtag just wowed me! But you can’t live in Italy and not love Verdi.

going up!
