My Diary, Trip

Vacation, Staycation…….Medic…ation!

There you are! I’ve invented a new word and a new-style holiday! While all you lucky ones were

spending your hard- earned money, jostling elbows on overcrowded beaches, being disgusted by litter in

beauty spots, jetting round the world….I stayed at home, driving empty roads, shopping at

cavernous supermarkets, chatting with the few other stay-at- homes, in a post-apocalyptic style

of friendliness.

My savvy daughter had made a number of medical appointments for me in the very best time of

year to get a quick answer, well before you kick the bucket I mean, so August was spent navigating

long, empty, echoing corridors, not needing books (no waiting) and sweet, unrushed medical staff

happy to answer your queries.

Some of the hospitals are like another planet. You go in just knowing you’re going to get well and

so come out feeling great. My favourite though was in the dungeons of San Raffaele where a

pleased oncologist grasped my hands announcing in broken English “No Cancer, no cancer.”

I had the feeling that he doesn’t often say that poor guy, his office is already half way to hell.

Then of course we had the carefully chosen lakeside ones where, depending on the time of the

appointment you could have a lakeside brunch or an aperitif. They were the best!

So ,if you have any health problems, let me know, I can give you the low-down on the best places.
