Life is full of surprises isn’t it; often coming from the most unexpected places. Well as you all
probably know, the great Tim Curry died recently, at a very similar time to Dolly. When the media
and fans from all over had almost finished celebrating her, they started on Tim. You couldn’t
scroll down any of your social media accounts without seeing Tim camping it up in “The Rocky
Horror Picture Show”. And surprisingly, the small local cinema which runs a pretty good summer
season in a courtyard decided to do the RHPS. I thought I’d go and sit in splendid isolation and
would’ve liked to go dressed up but here in Brianza? Maybe no. I went there fairly late… the bourgeois
Villasantese will not be going queer all of a sudden I thought. Boy was I wrong! When I got there
the ticket seller was trying to turn people away! Fortunately for me there was rather an
aggressive lady in front of me sporting necklace, earrings, heels and a clown’s conical hat, who
refused to stay outside. Vox popoli, vox dei! We were let in among the multi -coloured audience,
rows of people sporting fishnet tights, guepiere tops and smoky black eyes. Then it started.
Absolutely wonderful to see it all again. When they played the time warp, most of the audience got
up to dance and there was a lot of accompanying singing. And as ever, the magic of a crowd of
people sitting in a dark place who were overcome with emotion when Tim sang “I’m going home”.
At the end of the film while the credits rolled the cosplayers danced in front of the screen. An absolutely
fabulous evening and heartfelt apologies to the locals , honestly, I didn’t think they had it in them!
